1940's multi-story home situated in Newport on a hillside with 180' views of the bay, bridge and ocean and walking distance to all of those in 5-10 minutes. Great family home, 2 bedrooms plus great spacious kid loft. The home is well-stocked, relaxing and cozy. Great for storm-watching or sunny days relaxing on the wind protected deck. A great home-base for adventures at the beach, walking, tide-pooling, surfing, crabbing, boating, watching whales or sea lions, kite-flying and sand-castle building to name just a few! The main floor has kitchen, dining, breakfast nook and living room with Queen sofabed. There are VIEWS from EVERY ROOM. Please see our photos, they are all taken from the various house windows. Kitchen is well stocked, gas range, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee pot and grinder and all basic needs and small appliances. There is a larger 6-8 person dining table plus a 4-6 person breakfast nook table and leaves for both and dishes to serve 16 easily. Second floor Guest Room(aka Bridge room with views of bridge): Queen Bed There is a large soaking tub and shower on the 2nd floor with bedrooms and a powder room on the main floor. There is a spacious loft with 6 sleeping mats, stocked with TV/DVD/Wii/Computer and kid games. This loft has held 10 teenagers for a birthday sleepover easily (or so I'm told!). There is a large deck with gas BBQ, dining table and lounge chairs. The deck is glassed in on 3 sides so you can enjoy those sunny days even if it is breezy. There is a small grass unfenced yard, and shrubs and trees filled with birds of all sorts, starlings, gulls swallows, even blue herons. There are binoculars and bird books in the house. You can hear the sea lions from the bay barking in all the seasons except summer when they migrate. We are situated right above the hospital and emergency room, they usually don't use sirens or keep us up during the night in the neighborhood but you just might get to see the Life Flight helicopter landing or taking off! The house is loaded with games, books, linens, soaps/shampoos, and basic kitchen needs like spices and paper plates or baggies. We have information in the house with local activities, parks, lighthouses, beaches and restaurants. We are 5 minute walk to the bayfront with many restaurants and activities, 5 minutes to downtown, and 8-10 minute walk to the beach, 10 minute walk to Nye Beach area. Parking for 3 cars in front of home. Washer/Dryer access in basement with prior owner permission only. We are continually working to improve this home. We fell in love with it despite the work it needed as a 1940's home. We are still remodeling the basement for rental at this time so only about 2000sf out of 3500sf of the home is open for rental. Secluded beach front home, 3 levels. Full beach access, full ocean view from every room. The house has all new carpeting, windows, siding, and kitchen. Every year my family gets together and spends a week on the Oregon Coast. We have stayed at many places and this is by far the most well maintained home. It was clean, organized, well laid out and easy to access the property. There was plenty of space for parking. The location is only a short walk down the street with an easy beach access, no stairs or steep hills making the beach accessible to everyone. A bonus to the home is there is a park right across the street. Needless to say the kids were ecstatic to be able to easily go across the street to burn off some energy. I loved that the home offered a central area for the family to get together and spend family time. It has lots of room up on the second floor for family breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Along with family movie time. The owner took pride in his location and was easily accessible. We look forward to spending our next family get together at one of the Norm's Homes Kimberly M. They are perfectly located within blocks of restaurants, beach access and right across the street from a park. All three generations enjoyed the hot tubs and whale watching at breakfast. Each house was very well appointed with everything we could want in the kitchen (including crab crackers that came in handy when we came back from crabbing), and thoughtful touches like sand toys, hairdryers, basic toiletries, games, books and even some movies. We have stayed at many places and this is by far the most well maintained home. It was clean, organized, well laid out and easy to access the property. There was plenty of space for parking. The location is only a short walk down the street with an easy beach access, no stairs or steep hills making the beach accessible to everyone. A bonus to the home is there is a park right across the street. Needless to say the kids were ecstatic to be able to easily go across the street to burn off some energy. I loved that the home offered a central area for the family to get together and spend family time. It has lots of room up on the second floor for family breakfasts, lunches and dinners. They are perfectly located within blocks of restaurants, beach access and right across the street from a park. All three generations enjoyed the hot tubs and whale watching at breakfast. Each house was very well appointed with everything we could want in the kitchen (including crab crackers that came in handy when we came back from crabbing), and thoughtful touches like sand toys, hairdryers, basic toiletries, games, books and even some movies. Thanks Norm Here's a recent review by a guest pretty darn good description as well if I don't say so myself Ron Zaraza My wife and I, our son and daughter-in-law, and their three children ages 3, 6, and almost 10 stayed in the Wakefield house June 22nd through 29th. We've stayed in other houses in Newport, and the contrast between this house and the others was simply amazing. Quite simply, the house was ideal for us, particularly in the context of COVID-19. Let me begin with the kitchen. All rentals claim a completely equipped kitchen. Most are actually quite rudimentary. Not so with Wakefield. My son and I are both hobby/gourmet cooks. Everything we could have wanted was there. Pots, pans, bowls, baking sheets, and complete utensils for preparation were there. We didn't lack for anything as we made a Luccan rabbit sauce for polenta, seared halibut, sauteed scallops, and an assortment of other dishes. We had oysters, and of course there were oyster knives in a drawer. All appliances worked perfectly. There was no food processor or stand mixer, but one could hardly expect that. What made working in the kitchen really outstanding was the lighting and space. As much open counter space as you could want, at times allowing three of us to work in the kitchen at the same time. The lighting in the high ceiling was far superior to any I've seen in rentals, as well as my own kitchen. The lighting was similarly excellent in the living room/dining area. The nine windows insured lots of natural light even on overcast days, and the supplementary light was perfect. Seating in the "living room" was comfortable, and easily accommodated our group. What was especially nice was a sort of "nook" at the northwest corner of the area. Set in a bay window are two very comfortable chairs with a view of the ocean - an ideal spot for reading or simply watching. The entire house was spotless, the beds very comfortable. The hot tub was very good. What was really kind of amazing was the quality and quality of the towels. Seven people, using the hot tub five days, showering every day, and we only had to wash a couple of towels the last day. That is unusual in our experience. We've often had to go out for paper products, a utensil that the kitchen didn't have, dish/laundry soap, or other items that rental houses we've stayed in didn't have. With the very recent outbreak of COVID-19 in Newport, we were somewhat concerned about that. We wanted to stay isolated as much as possible, only going to the beach. We needn't have worried. Wakefield was fully equipped in every way. We brought our food to avoid shopping. Ina situation without the threat of COVID, the house is only a few blocks (actually walking distance if you don't mind walking uphill) from the JC Market Thriftway, a local market with a really amazing selection of food (We recommend the smoked albacore) and wines. A number of restaurants are also within a few blocks. But this trip, we stayed in and isolated. Everything about Wakefield House was spot on. My wife and I have stayed in rentals in Tuscany, Warsaw, Krakow, Rome, Turkey, Prague, Washington DC, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, and Vermont. Wakefield is the equal of the best we stayed in while in Europe, and superior to any we've used in the United States. We are already planning dates for next year. Covid 19 A Work in Progress. The tub shower has a sliding door of rain glass and the other 2 walk-ins are enclosed with rain glass swinging doors. Extra interior wall insulation makes all the rooms more quiet. A Play-n-Pak is located in a bedroom closet for the little sleepers. Off the large covered deck that has chairs for setting in the sun or sea gazing is a trail that adjoins the 1 1/2 acres of woods and leads down to the private neighborhood beach. Walk South to the creek that meanders into the ocean and come up to the gravel drive and you are at the end of Surfland. Walking North along the paved street to return to the house's driveway you can appreciate the sedate neighborhood quiet. This house is definitely not a "party " house, but is meant for the serene enjoyment of friends and family and those who want to get together for a memorable weekend or week enjoying each others company. The house is located only 2 miles from the Oregon Aquatic Center and Mark Hatfield Science Center. The Science Center is free admission and adults will find it as interesting as children. Before leaving the area stop by the famous Rogue Ale Brewery for a pint and tour of the facility and enjoy the restaurant upstairs and view the Yaquina Bay. Just the other side of the bridge into Newport is the turn off to go down to the bay front. Past canneries bringing in the day's catch are restaurants and gift stores for the curious shoppers who will find that certain something they need to take home with them. Don't forget to go to the pier and look down to see the many sea lions on the dock below.

1940's multi-story home situated in Newport on a hillside above the bayfront. 180' views of the bay, bridge and ocean, and walking distance to all of those in 5-10 minutes. Great family home, 2 bedrooms plus great spacious kid loft. The home is well-stocked, relaxing and cozy. Great for storm-watching or sunny days relaxing on the wind protected deck. A great home-base for adventures at the beach, walking, tide-pooling, surfing, crabbing, boating, watching whales or sea lions, kite-flying and sand-castle building to name just a few! The main floor has kitchen, dining, breakfast nook and living room with Queen sofabed. There are VIEWS from EVERY ROOM. Please see our photos, they are all taken from the various windows. Kitchen is well stocked, gas range, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee pot and grinder and all basic needs and small appliances. There is a larger 6-8 person dining table plus a 4-6 person breakfast nook table and leaves for both and dishes to serve 16 easily. Main floor has a 50in LCD (no cableTV) smart TV with provided chromecast. Visitors are free to stream their phone/tablet to the TV this way. Personal Netflix, Amazon, and other cloud services can be easily viewed on the TV if you bring your own internet device (Amazon Firestick/Roku, etc.). Just add to the provided HDMI cable and join our wireless network. There is free WiFi throughout the house. No land line but cell charger ports abound. The house is wired with SONOS speakers for radio and music access that can be managed from your cell phone app and play different music in each room. On second floor is the Master Bedroom: Queen bed, plus small 1 person or 2 kids sofabed. 36in smart TV LCD with chromecast. Treehouse views! Second floor Guest Room(aka our "Bridge room" with views of bridge): Queen Bed There is a large soaking tub and shower on the 2nd floor and a powder room on the main floor. There is a spacious loft with 6 sleeping mats, stocked with TV/DVD/Xbox One/Computer and kid games. This loft has held 10 teenagers for a birthday sleepover easily (or so I'm told!). There is a large deck with charcoal grill, dining table and lounge chairs. The deck is glassed in on 3 sides so you can enjoy those sunny days even if it is breezy. There is a small grass unfenced yard, and shrubs and trees filled with birds of all sorts, starlings, gulls swallows, even blue herons. There are binoculars and bird books in the house. You can hear the sea lions from the bay barking in all the seasons except summer when they migrate. We are situated right above the hospital and you just might get to see the Life Flight helicopter landing or taking off! The house is loaded with games, books, linens, soaps/shampoos, and basic kitchen needs like spices and paper plates or baggies. We have information in the house with local activities, parks, lighthouses, beaches and restaurants. We are 5 minute walk to the bayfront with many restaurants and activities, 5 minutes to downtown, and 8-10 minute walk to the beach, 10 minute walk to Nye Beach area. Parking for 2 cars in driveway, and two more in front of home. Washer/Dryer access in basement with prior owner permission only. We are continually working to improve this home. We fell in love with it despite the work it needed as a 1940's home. Recent siding and new windows, new ductless heat and in wall cadets have been installed. The house includes a finished basement we use as an owner hangout, or for short term rentals. Our family has enjoyed this home many times and have hosted family holiday dinners easily here.
